STUDENT PAGE 1 OF 2: Solve the first three cases

Write each pictured note's name, then play it on the piano.

  • Case 01 - treble-clef G on the second line from the bottom
  • Case 02 - middle C on one ledger line below the treble staff
  • Case 03 - bass-clef F on the second line from the top

Detective tip: identify the clef before you count.

How to use it

  1. 1Print one detective sheet for the student and keep the answer key nearby.
  2. 2Ask the student to name each landmark note, then play it on the piano.
  3. 3Finish by circling the two notes that were slowest and repeat them once.

Teaching notes

  • Cover the note names for students who are ready to work from staff position alone.
  • For younger students, complete one row per lesson instead of the whole page.
